The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) which lists top universities and colleges in India has been released today, September 9. The Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has released NIRF India Rankings 2021 at 12 noon.
The NIRF India Ranking 2021 has been announced for eleven categories — Overall, University, Management, College, Pharmacy, Medical, Engineering, Architecture, ARIIA (Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements), Law and Research Institutions.
The NIRF India Ranking parameters and therefore the weighted averages adopted to derive the rankings differ for all the categories. The broad categories adopted to rank the universities , universities and institutes include Teaching, Learning and Resources; Research and Professional Practice; Graduation Outcomes; Outreach and Inclusivity and Peer Perception.
With each passing year, the amount of institutes participating in NIRF rankings has increased then have the categories during which institutes are ranked. In 2016, the institutes were ranked in just four categories which increased to eleven in 2021.

Releasing the NIRF Ranking 2021, Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan said: “I am happy to be part of the India Rankings 2021 along the side lines of the Shiksha Parv initiatives envisioned by our visionary Prime Ministry Shri Narendra Modi ji. He arranged for the Education Sector to have rankings in the country. This is the sixth year we are having this ranking framework. This is very essential in the 21st Century.”
