Early Life of Draupadi Murmu

As a councilor in Rairangpur Nagar Panchayat, Murmu started her political career as a member of the Santhal community in 1997. Later, she was elected vice president of Rairangpur National Advisory Council. The party’s ST Morcha promoted her to the rank of national executive member in 2013. From 2000-2002, Raupadi Murmu was the Minister of State for Fisheries and Animal Resource Development in the BJP-BJD coalition government of Odisha.

The Odisha Legislative Assembly awarded Murmu the Neelkanth Award for being the best legislator of the year in 2007. Her assembly seat in Rairangpur was retained in 2009 even after the BJD broke ties with the BJP a few weeks before the state elections, which Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s BJD won.

The last date for the filing of nominations for the presidential election is on June 29 and voting will take place on July 18. Counting of votes will take place on July 2022.
