How to Change IGNOU Address & Name Correction

IGNOU Address and Name Correction Procedure – IGNOU students can update their academic database by following instructions. The printed form for the address change is sent to the students along with the first set of IGNOU Study Material. If a candidate is transferred to another address or if any corrections are needed in the address then they can submit this letter to correct or change the address.

It is recommended that the student use the provided performance and programme guide with the study material and send the filled application to the IGNOU Regional Centre that they selected upon enrollment. Registrar, SED (Student Registration Division), IGNOU, Maidan Garhi, New Delhi, will make the necessary changes in the database. Candidate cannot make or send a direct request to SRD, New Delhi or any other regional centre of IGNOU.

IGNOU Name Change or Correction Procedure

If the candidate comes to know that there is a mistake in their name while checking their registration status then candidates have to correct the mistake soon. This will prevent issues in the future. For correction in the spelling of the name, candidates have to attach an attested photocopy of the 10th class Certificate. In case a candidate has lost or misplaced the performance and programme guide, they can also download the application form online

Candidates must not write letters to other officers of IGNOU University and must only address letters to the appropriate RC. All applications sent to other departments will be ignored.


The university, in its notification of 23rd August 2021, has decided to charge a fee for changes in provisional mark sheets, certificates, and grade cards resulting from changes in names and addresses. In order to apply for a name or address change at IGNOU, students must pay one of the below fees.

  • Rs 500 (On or after 31st Convocation)
  • Rs 1500 (Between 1st to 30th Convocation)
Note- Candidates will not be charged any fees if the error was made by the university.  

After Application, the Duration of Change

In most cases, it takes 4 to 6 weeks for the change of address to be reflected in the student database.
