Bhagwant Mann

On October 17, 1973, he was born into a Sikh family in the village of Satoj, in the Sangrur district of Punjab, India. His father is Shri Mohinder Singh, and his mother is Smt. Harpal Kaur. He received his education at Shaheed Udham Singh Government College, Sunam.

After completing his graduation from Shaheed Udham Singh Government College, Sunam, he separated from his ex-wife Inderpreet Kaur, who they had two children together.

Participated in comedy festivals and inter-college competitions. He won two gold medals for Shaheed Udham Singh Government College, Sunam, in a competition at the Punjabi University, Patiala. 

Throughout his career, he presented several comedy routines about typical Indian issues, such as politics, business, and sports. He also created with Jagtar Jaggi a TV show we know as Jugnu Kehnda Hai. After ten years, the two parted ways.

The following year, Bhagwant Mann and Rana Ranbir created “Jungnu Mast Mast” for Alpha ETC Punjabi only. Mann and Jaggi also reunited in 2006 and toured Canada and England with “No Life With Wife.”

His popularity increased as well in 2008 when he took part in the Great Indian Laughter Challenge on Star Plus. He also won a National Award for his performance in a theatre play, “Main Maa Punjab Dee”. He was also in Jugnu Hazir Hai as a supporting actor.

Bhagwant Mann: Political Career

Having joined the People’s Party in 2011, Balwant Mann successfully contested the assembly elections in the Lehra constituency in 2012. He then switched over to the Aam Aadmi Party in 2014 to contest the Lok Sabha elections in Sangrur.

In 2017, he ran for the assembly election in Jalalabad against Sukhbir Singh Badal and Ravneet Singh Bittu. He lost to Badal. In 2016, he ran for the state assembly election against former union minister Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa.

In May 2014, he was elected to the 16th Lok Sabha from the Sangrur Lok Sabha constituency. He defeated Shiromani Akali Dal candidate Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa.

He won his second term in parliament in May 2019. He was re-elected from Sangrur Lok Sabha Constituency from the 17th Lok Sabha. He won against Kewal Singh Dhillon (INC) and Parminder Singh Dhindsa (Shiromani Akali Dal).

In the 2022 Punjab Legislative Assembly elections, he was chosen as the Aam Aadmi Party’s candidate for Chief Minister of Punjab.

According to Kejriwal, Mann was chosen as the party’s CM candidate based on a phone call to the public.

As a result of AAP’s massive victory in the 2022 Punjab Assembly Elections, Balwant Mann was sworn in as the new chief minister of Punjab on March 10, 2022. The AAP won 92 seats out of 117 in the Punjab Assembly Elections of 2022.

As Chief Minister of Punjab, Mann will take the oath at Khatkar Kalan, which is the ancestral village of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh.
